IWMD 2024 Merseyside Event Invitation To All

Every year the CWU on Merseyside, along with other Trade Unions such as the GMB, Unison, Unite attend an event commemorating those who have lost their lives through work in the county - the International Worker's Memorial Day on 28th April annually.

CWU Greater Merseyside Amal members Jamie McGovern, Derek Maylor together with John Flanagan of the Merseyside Asbestos Victims Support Group, John Newton from Unison, and ad-hoc supporters get together in January to organise the year's IWMD.

Unionsafety, fully supports the event s and provides video and photographic coverage of the Liverpool event, which is then published on the website - www.unionsafety.eu - and shared with other organisations to use in their web pages and press releases promoting and headlining the IWMD event in Liverpool.

You can got to the webpage promoting the invitation here and register to attend on the day. You can also share it via email, Face Book, and Twitter.

The details of the event as described in the Megaphone campaigning website is below:

Every year more people are killed at work than in wars. Most don't die of mystery ailments, or in tragic "accidents". They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn't that important a priority. International Workers Memorial Day 28 April commemorates those workers.

With last year the hottest year on record, the theme for 2024's Workers' Memorial Day is the impacts of climate change on occupational health and safety. Death at work and employment disruption as a result of global warming, not to mention occupational illnesses caused by polluting fossil fuels, are rising everywhere, and are only expected to increase.

Stand with us this year to remember the early victims of climate change-caused heat stress, UV radiation, air pollution, industrial accidents, extreme weather events, vector-borne diseases, and chemical exposure. And commit to fight for a world that's more, not less, safe to live and work in.
